Everyone likes clean and clear skin, as it adds to one’s personality. However, acne can spoil your appearance and sometimes is the cause of low self–esteem. Commonly known as pimples, acne is most prevalent during adolescence, affecting more than 85 per cent teenagers and often continues into adulthood.

Dr. S.P.S. Bakshi, CMD, Bakson Group and a world renowned homoeopath, says that acne is due to blockage and inflammation of skin pores, which is due to allergy, an inherent susceptibility to diseases. Exogenic allergens, which trigger acne, include occlusive cosmetics, cleansing agents, sensitive clothing and humidity. Hormonal changes during puberty and pregnancy may precipitate development too but the underlying cause is endogenic/hereditary.

The patients with a family history of skin and respiratory ailments are prone towards skin allergies.

The typical acne lesions are comedones (white or black heads), which may be filled with pus. Face and upper neck are the commonly affected areas along with chest, back and shoulders. Oil glands keep the skin lubricated and remove old skin cells. Too much oil blocks the pores, accumulating dirt, debris and bacteria, causing plugs or comedone.

Dr. Bakshi points out that suppression of acne with oral/externally applied antibiotics or use of chemical skin peeling can affect other systems including respiratory problems, digestive upsets or even joint pains. Hence, safe and effective treatment through Homoeopathy is called for to remove internal toxins and heal holistically. Dr. Bakshi also advises to avoid pinching of pimples as it can lead to scarring.

Some of the commonly prescribed medicines are:

  • Asterias Rubens 30: Pimples on sides of nose, chin and mouth. Disposition to acne at puberty.
  • Kalium Bromatum 30: Acne; Itching with pus filled eruptions.
  • Dr. Bakshi’s Acne Aid Tablets and Cream: Treats pimples, prevents excess sebum (oil) production and heals without leaving any scar. Take one tablet, twice a day and apply the ointment on clean, dried affected portion of the skin two times a day.
  • Dr. Bakshi's # B 25 Acne Drops: Effective for all types of acne. Take 10-15 drops mixed in water, once a day.

All medicines are to be taken under the guidance of a Registered Homoeopathic Medical Practitioner.
