Indigestion is when you feel fullness, or discomfort in the stomach after a meal. It is an extremely common condition that can happen to anybody. Indigestion can last for years, if not for a lifetime, but the frequency and severity of this mild menace fluctuates. What happens in indigestion is that the stomach's protective inner lining that protects from normal acidic secretion, ends up getting irritated from excess acid, causing inflammation resulting in indigestion. Symptoms include pain in upper abdomen, heartburn, bloating, belching, early satiety, nausea and flatulence.

Dr. S.P.S. Bakshi stresses that the fundamental cause of indigestion is allergy. The symptoms may get aggravated due to exogenic factors such as use of certain medications, smoking, stress, consumption of certain gas producing food such as cabbage, cucumber, beans & fried food but the actual cause is endogenic allergy i.e. genetic disposition. Patients with a family history of gastric and musculoskeletal complaints are more prone towards indigestion.

Homoeopathic medicines help relieve the symptoms of indigestion and restore your state of health. However, along with homoeopathic medication proper intake of food and water is also essential. Avoid packaged/fermented food, starch-based & sugar-based foods. Small meals at regular intervals should be taken and food should be chewed properly. One should also go for walks, do yoga and exercise along with homoeopathic medication.
