The term Lichen Planus was derived from a Greek word called “leichen” meaning tree moss and latin word “planus” which means flat. Lichen planus is a disease characterised by pink, purplish flat lesions on the skin commonly seen on arms, legs & lower back. It may also affect the mucous membranes, scalp and nails. Mouth is very commonly affected by the presence of the white lacy network of rashes. People suffering from lichen planus have a tendency of suffering from apthae very frequently. On affecting nails, it leads to destruction of nail folds and nail beds. Lesions on the scalp may also result in hair loss in some people. Once the rashes have appeared they may last for months and they often leave marks of pigmentation behind.
According to Dr. S.P.S. Bakshi, Lichen planus is an outward reflection of an internal hereditary disposition called “ALLERGY”.
This occurs when the immune system overreacts to certain exogenic factors like exposure to certain medications such as beta blockers, diuretics and NSAIDS etc. This results in an inflammatory response which further leads to an excessive production of T cells (a type of immune cells).
Homoeopathy offers a very promising treatment for Lichen planus. In homoeopathy, the details of the family history as well as the individual symptoms of the patient are essential. Therefore, the treatment is offered after taking these factors into account. Homoeopathic medicines act on the immune system of the body and make it strong so that our body does not get affected by the harmless substances. As a result it does not react to them even after continuous exposure and symptoms are not produced. Hence, the homoeopathic treatment harmonizes the immune response and helps prevent disease.
All medicines are to be taken under the guidance of a Registered Homoeopathic Medical Practitioner.
